ICC suspended Zimbabwe Cricket in July citing there was government’s interference in the running of the board.

The apex body stated that Zimbabwe Cricket was in breach of Article 2.4 (c) and (d) of the ICC Constitution and that the actions of the Sports and Recreation Commission in suspending the board in June constituted government interference in Zimbabwe Cricket’s affairs.

The suspension has left ZC without ICC funding – they were due to receive US $94 million over eight years – and their national teams are currently excluded from their events. However, with their status likely to be reviewed, a proper picture of their immediate future will emerge soon.

ICC President Shashank Manohar said that they don’t take any step lightly and they are hell-bent to keep the sports free from any political interference. They will continue to have a stern attitude to any kind of political interference.

“We do not take the decision to suspend a member lightly, but we must keep our sport free from political interference,” ICC chairman Shashank Manohar said then. “What has happened in Zimbabwe is a serious breach of the ICC Constitution and we cannot allow it to continue unchecked,” he added.

Zimbabwe’s national women’s team was barred from taking part in the  Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier held in Scotland from August 31 to September 7, while the national men’s team was also excluded from 2019 World Twenty20 Qualifier which gets underway in UAE on Friday.
