The tournament was held from the 30th of November-2nd of December 2018. An international youth tournament which was hosted by Limitless Mind Chess Academy which is led by FA Keneese Katisenge in conjunction with the Botswana Chess Federation. The Olympic Committee member Ms Yarona Sharp was also present at the event which was colourful at the opening and closure. A record 200 participants took part in this tournament which was the first one of its own kind featuring the Youngsters whose participation have been affected on the regional state due to the lack of many rated tournaments.
Tapiwa Chikwavaire won five games and drew two games out of the seven games which he played. This brought to 6 points his tally out of seven games played. The games were so pulsating that one would want to continue watching. He won a gold medal and 1000 pula for his efforts.
Not to be outdone was Kudakwashe Zimbowa of Seke 1 high school who came second in the under 19 boys’ category after finishing with five points out of the 7 games he played. He won four games drew two games and lost one game to Fide Master Nsikokola M of Zambia. He won a silver medal and 750 Pula. Linda Shaba won a silver medal in the under 21 girls category. She won four games out Of the five games she played. She lost her game to Woman Fide Master Besa Masaiti of Botswana won a gold medal and 1000 Pula for her efforts after finishing with a perfect score.
Linda Shaba pocketed a cool 750 Pulas for coming second in this ladies section. She lost a seemingly won position quick she failed to convert. Meanwhile, Anashe Murinda came second in the under 15 girls category winning a silver medal, ahead of her was WCM Refliwe of Botswana whom she drew against in their game. The WCM defeated WFM Naledi Marape in a pulsating rook endgame in which Refilwe had a superior position which she converted. WFM Naledi Marape came third in this section getting a bronze medal while Refilwe and Anashe Murinda got gold and silver respectively.
Jordan Gweshe won a gold medal in the under 7 boys’ section. Zimbabwe had the biggest number of participants in this tournament. Three countries took part in this tournament namely: Botswana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The organisation of the tournament was of par excellence as it produced the best from the players who took part. Advertising was also very good as it ensured that the chess playing schools and clubs took part in this successful tourney.
The Chief Arbiter for the tournament was International Arbiter Vincent Masole of Botswana who was deputised by International Master Simbarashe Murimi of Zimbabwe.
